Weave with us!

The collective Weberei Kai is looking for four interns this July for the “School of Weaving” at Thomaskirche in Gelsenkirchen-Erle.

The School of Weaving invites participants to work practically with textiles and immerse themselves in the craft of weaving. Over the course of four weeks, participants will learn everything from warping and setting up looms to tapestry weaving and leading public workshops. At the same time, there will be space and time for individual creative projects.

The open call is aimed at people with different backgrounds. Whether you study art, are currently in adult education or looking for work, everyone is invited to become part of the School of Weaving.

The School of Weaving is open during the biennial from Thursday to Sunday. Working hours will mostly follow the opening hours: Thursdays and Sundays from 11.00 to 18.00, Fridays and Saturdays from 11.00 to 19.00.

To support participation, a 500 € stipend and a daily shared lunch in the weaving workshop are provided.

Weberei Kai emerged as a response to the disappearance of traditional textile practices. The team consisting of Katie Dimpfl, Jonathan Frangenberg, Catrin Lorch and Konrad Menden develops designs, collects ideas and works together with participants on woven objects and experimental textile works. Everyone is invited to take part and experiment together.

Applications are now open. Further information and the application form can be found here.
